Journey Interrupted
This past Fall I was preparing for scheduled knee surgery, so my training goals shifted to foundational fitness. It was a difficult time and I felt like I was going backwards in my quest for improved physical health, not forward. Morgan made a quick pivot with our plan and we focused on work that centered on stability, core strength and flexibility without putting a strain on my knees. Initially, I felt silly asking Morgan to coach me on such simple routines while others around me were completing more challenging and complex routines. She approached our sessions with encouragement and patience and at no time did she make me feel like what I was doing was too basic. We talked throughout our sessions and I became stronger as the weeks went by. She always asked how I was doing during our weekly meetings and often checked on me afterward to see how I felt after adding more difficult exercises. With Morgan’s guidance, both in my workouts and through our discussions, I started to feel like I could get back to the things that were important to me and I could focus on my original goals.
After successful knee surgery and physical therapy, I have learned that recovery is not linear and there will always be peaks and valleys. Transitions in life are inevitable. We take jobs that make us more sedentary, have babies, get older, experience health issues, suffer injuries, and more. These things tax us physically and mentally. I wouldn’t have made it through these last few months successfully without Morgan’s targeted and supportive coaching. My physical and mental health improved significantly and I look forward to working with Morgan on the next part of my journey.
